CU’s Dialogue on Public Issues television show features Terry Allen, associate vice president for Institutional Equity at UK

CAMPBELLSVILLE — Terry D. Allen, associate vice president for institutional equity at the University of Kentucky, was a recent guest on Campbellsville University’s Dialogue on Public Issues (DPI) television show with host John Chowning. Both Allen and Chowning work in the diversity efforts of their respective institutions and the discussion centered around the local diversity program and CU’s participation in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration in the Lexington-Fayette County area.
Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president, said he was proud to welcome Allen, a friend and fellow leader in higher education as well as a fellow Cumberland County, Ky. native. Both men were raised in the rural southern county, Allen in Burkesville and Chowning in Amandaville. Allen also has family in Campbellsville-Taylor County.
At a luncheon Chowning hosted following the interview, Allen was able to meet local leaders who support and work with the diversity efforts at CU, including: Dr. Mary Wilgus, dean of CU’s college of arts and sciences; Wanda Washington, coordinator of Greater Campbellsville United, and her husband, Rev. James Washington; Rev. Michael Caldwell, vice president of the Taylor County Ministerial Association; and Taylor County Judge Executive Eddie Rogers.
Chowning said that CU is especially proud of its partnership with Greater Campbellsville United, a non-profit organization that accepts, acknowledges, respects and encourages diversity across all cultures. GCU promotes equal opportunity, equity, and positive relationships among all racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, religious, gender, and political entities in this community and throughout the region.
Plans are being finalized now for CU’s annual celebration of Dr. King’s legacy for students and the community at large on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Service guest speaker will be Dr. Marvin McMickle, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio and professor of homiletics at Ashland Theological Seminary.
