CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TO CELEBRATE AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH WITH LEXINGTON PASTOR

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University will be celebrating African-American History Month with a chapel service led by Dr. Joseph Owens, senior pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Ransdell Chapel.

Owens is vice chair of the Campbellsville University Board of Trustees. He graduated from Campbellsville College in 1977 with a bachelor of arts in Christian studies. He has since won the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award during Campbellsville University’s Homecoming celebration.

Owens, a native of Lebanon, Ky., became licensed to preach in 1975 at First Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Ky., and became ordained in 1980 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky.

He graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1980 with a master of divinity and a master of religious education. In 2000, he graduated from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio with a doctor of ministry.

Owens served as pastor at Second Baptist Church in Vincennes, Ind. for seven years, and Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, Ky. for 11 years. He is serving in his tenth year as pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky.

He serves as chairman for the Black Church Coalition of the Bluegrass in Lexington, Ky. He is a member of several boards including Building a United Interfaith Lexington through Direct Action, Direct Action Research Training (DART) and North Lexington Branch YMCA. He also serves as a moderator of the Consolidated District Baptist Association.

Owens has been married to his wife, Elizabeth, also a 1977 graduate of CU, for 35 years. She is employed with the Fayette County School System as a child guidance specialist. The couple has two children, Charisa Jené and John Mark.

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through of a variety of informative speakers and presentations.

All chapels are open to the public free of charge and are televised live on WLCU-TV-4 (Comcast Cable channel 10) and are streamed live on the Internet.
