CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – “If your first concern is to look after yourself, you will never find it. But if you forget about yourself and look to me (Jesus), you’ll find both yourself and me.”
Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University, encouraged students and staff to approach this new semester and year with an outlook of putting others before themselves. He described his comments as a “preface” for the coming academic year and said, “Each of you is writing a chapter. You’re writing a chapter in the life of Campbellsville University according to your experience here.”
There were nearly 550 students and 60 faculty and staff members in attendance.
During the ceremony, Dr. Donna Hedgepath, provost and vice president for academic affairs, introduced 29 new university faculty members beginning their careers at the institution, both at the main campus and at various regional and instructional sites. Sixteen were able to be in attendance.
Following the new employee introductions, Advancement Board Member Randy Herron presented Dr. Joe Early Jr. with the Distinguished Tenured Faculty Award, citing numerous examples of his extensive involvement within the academic community and recognizable passion for educating his students. Early was described as “a very challenging and creative professor in the classroom,” Herron said.
The recipient of the Non-Tenured Faculty Excellence Award, an award given to a faculty member who exhibits excellence in the classroom, as well as the community and within the lives of CU students, was Dr. Charles “Chuck” Crain. He is chair of business programs and assistant professor of business in the School of Business, Economics and Technology at the Louisville Education Center, the largest single program at the university. “His patience and perseverance allows him to lead successfully with a nurturing heart,” Hedgepath said.
FCA Sponsor and Assistant Football Coach Matt Atwood delivered the benediction. Citing 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, he encouraged everyone to be honest and to boast in their weakness so that they may be seen deeply and rest in Christ.
