CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Dr. Ashlee Matney, Campbellsville University Chair and Professor of Mathematics, has been named Dean of the newly expanded CU School of Humanities and Sciences.

The appointment of Matney comes after several academic areas within Campbellsville University began expanding their academic scope, offering more degrees to meet the ever-evolving job market.

One major area of CU’s academics that has seen tremendous expansion is the humanities and sciences field. The school will contain the Division of Social Sciences, the Division of Agriculture, Mathematics, and Natural Science, and the Department of Modern Languages.

With such a wide range of course offerings, a new dean position was created. This dean would exude the values of CU, have a passion for student success, and seek to expand the opportunities the school has to offer.

This role has been appointed to Dr. Matney, a graduate of the CU class of 2007 with her Bachelor of Science in mathematics and accounting. Originally from Green County, Kentucky, Matney has found her home at Campbellsville University.

After completing her masters in 2009, Matney returned to CU to begin teaching as a mathematics instructor. Since that time, Matney has shown immense dedication to the students and faculty of CU’s math department and has served as the Department of Mathematics Chair since 2022.

Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Jeanette Parker, shared her confidence in the appointment, “Dr. Matney combines intelligence, grace, and integrity for very effective leadership. Dr. Matney's commitment to excellence, care for students, mentoring of faculty, and vision for growth make her ready to shift from Chair of Mathematics to Dean of Humanities and Sciences.”

Matney will continually work to expand CU’s academic outreach and will work closely with students and faculty in any way she can.

Dr. Monica Hardin, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs, said, “Dr. Matney has shown an impressive ability to learn and assimilate new information and ideas quickly. This skill has prepared her to now take on a broader role in which her deliberate, thoughtful approach will inject forward momentum in the School of Humanities and Sciences.”

Matney is married to her husband, Clayton, and has two children, Levi and Alanna. She also received her Master of Arts in mathematics in 2009 and her doctorate in educational sciences with an emphasis in STEM education in 2022, both from the University of Kentucky.

Campbellsville University is a widely acclaimed Kentucky-based Christian university that offers over 100 programs, including doctoral, master's, bachelor's, associate and certificate programs. For complete information, please visit www.campbellsville.edu.
