Finances
Many international students choose to open a bank account in the U.S. while they are here, since this makes it easier to have access to money and take care of expenses. If you are planning to work on-campus, you should open an account so that you can receive your paychecks through direct deposit.
There are many banks to choose between in Campbellsville. Feel free to find the one that works best for you. There are several banks within walking distance of campus, and Citizens Bank and Taylor County Bank have ATM locations on campus by the mailroom.

Students under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or guardian accompany them and provide identification in order to open a bank account. If this is not possible, some students under 18 have had success using The One App. The One App provides students with a routing number and debit card.
Bring enough cash to take care of your immediate needs.
It's best to exchange your currency before you arrive. Campbellsville does not have any currency exchange services. Foreign currency exchange is available at Fifth Third Bank in the Louisville International Airport (SDF). It is located on the upper level of the terminal. Students will need at least one form of ID (Passport/Visa) to exchange up to $1,000 USD.
If you need to provide an American address, you may use this address and phone number:

Taxes are due in the United States on or near April 15 every year.
Most international students are surprised to learn that they are required to send paperwork to the IRS if they were in the U.S. as a student during the previous calendar year, even if they did not work. Students that begin their studies in January can wait until the following year before they are required to submit paperwork.
All international students are required to file a form 8843, regardless of whether you earned any money while in the U.S.
Students who had a job or received a performance grant are also required to file a tax return.
CGE has paid for all international students to have access to Sprintax, tax preparation program for non-resident students. Sprintax will guide you through the tax preparation process, help you arrange the necessary documents and check whether you are due a tax refund. Students will receive more information on this process during the tax season.
Watch these videos for information about getting started with Sprintax.
- Step 1- Residency Status
- Step 2- Getting to Know You
- Step 3- Let's Talk Money
- Step 4- Offset Your Expenses
- Step 5- About Your College
- Step 6- Living in the US
- Step 7- E-file Your Federal Tax Return with Sprintax
CGE will send all current students who are required to complete tax paperwork an email in January each year. It is a good idea to complete this process as soon as possible instead of waiting until the last minute since the process can sometimes take a while to complete.
CGE will pay the cost of your Federal Tax Return. If you are required to file a state tax return, you will need to pay for this part of the process or fill out a paper form on your own. You can get more information about Kentucky taxes here.
Sprintax has a 24/7 Live Chat helpline to help you with the process, or you can contact Dr. Davaa Dorjsuren in the Center for Business & Financial Literacy, located next to CGE, if you have additional questions.
Health Insurance
When you visit a doctor in the U.S., you will quickly realize that the medical system is different from the medical care you are used to in your home country. This page will introduce you to medical care in the U.S., what you should do in case of an emergency, prescriptions and medicines, and health insurance.
There are several options for medical care in Campbellsville, depending on the level of need.
1. Tiger Clinic or Personal Doctor
Campbellsville University has an on-campus health clinic. Appointments are required and they can help with most regular medical needs. This is one of the lower cost options since your health insurance will pay most of the cost of a regular doctor visit. The Tiger Clinic is the most convenient doctor's office, but you are allowed to find a different doctor if you would prefer to see someone else.
If you would like to find another doctor you can search here. Be sure to check whether the doctor is part of the AETNA network when you make your appointment.
2. Urgent Care
If you need to see someone more quickly, you should go to the Urgent Care Office in town. They accept walk-in patients and are able to help you when you can't wait for a regular appointment. Sometimes the lines can be long but you should be able to see someone at an urgent care office soon. You will usually pay a little more at an urgent care location than you would pay at a regular doctor's office, but the cost will not be as high as a visit to the emergency room.

3. Emergency Room
You should go to the emergency room for severe injuries or illnesses only. It is open 24 hours; however, lines can be long and emergency room services are often expensive. If your condition is not an emergency, it is better to make an appointment to see a doctor or go to an urgent care office.
4. Other Medical Needs, Dentists, and Eye Doctors
If you need to visit a medical specialist while you are in Campbellsville, you may want to speak with your regular doctor first so that they can refer you to the doctor you need to see.
If you are looking for a dentist or an eye doctor, there are several options for you to choose between in town.
You will usually need to make an appointment before going to visit a medical specialist, dentist, or eye doctor. You will also want to check your insurance before you go since the cost of the appointment may not be covered by your insurance plan.
Health insurance helps pay for your medical costs. You will receive your health insurance information in your email. However, health insurance will not cover all of your medical costs. You will be responsible for paying copays and deductibles.
International graduate students must purchase health insurance on their own.
What is a copay?
When you visit the doctor for a regular office visit, you will be required to pay a copay. This is a fixed amount that you will pay every time you go. The insurance company determined what the amount of the copay will be based on your insurance plan. Usually copays range from $25 to $50. Check your insurance plan to find out how much your copay will be.
What is a deductible?
Insurance will pay for most of the cost of your treatment, but you are usually required to pay part of the total. The deductible is the amount you are required to pay before an insurance plan begins to pay the rest of the cost. For example, if your deductible is $200, then you will be required to pay $200 of your bill and your insurance will pay the rest of the amount that is owed. The deductible is reset each year. Check your insurance information to find out how much your deductible will be.
When do I have to pay?
Copays are usually due at the time of your doctor appointment. Other expenses are normally billed after you have received treatment.
If you need additional information about health system in the United States, the staff at CGE are happy to help, you can contact the CGE office at CGE@campbellsville.edu

Over-the-Counter Medications: Over-the-Counter medications are medicines you don't need a doctor's prescription to purchase. These include cold medicines, pain relievers, and allergy medicines, among others. These medicines are not covered by insurance.
Prescription Medications: Before you can purchase these medications, you must have a doctor's prescription. International prescriptions are not usually accepted. You may be reimbursed for the cost of prescription medication if it is for an illness or injury that is covered under your insurance policy. Check your insurance plan for more information.
Kentucky Driver's License Instructions
Many international students choose to get a Kentucky driver's license. CGE can help you with this process and provide transportation for students to process their paperwork and take the written test at the nearest regional office in Columbia. Our office cannot provide transportation for driving tests.
Watch this step-by-step video to make sure you have all required paperwork prepared before you go to the regional office in Columbia.
You can get more information about the Driver's License process at this website
Copies of the required paperwork are available at the CGE office, or you can print them here:
Please come into the office to ask questions.
Students with an international driver's license should come to CGE with someone who can translate their license into English. You will need to fill out an Interpreter Affidavit of a Foreign Country Driver's License. This will allow you to get a Kentucky License, otherwise, you will be given a driver's permit. You must have your license with you and this form must be filled out at CGE since it must be notarized.
CGE offers transportation to written driver's license tests at the Drivers Licensing Office in Columbia. Be sure to make your appointment in advance to ensure that a CGE staff member will be available to take you.
Please watch this video for help making your appointment at the driver's license regional office in Columbia.
Driver's licenses are available for international students who are 18 or older. Students under the age of 18 should not plan to get a Kentucky Driver's License.
