The MFT Consortium of California brings together eight regional consortia of Marriage
and Family Therapy (MFT) academic programs across the state. Its mission is to improve
the quality of clinical training for MFT students by fostering collaboration between
educators and community clinical sites where students gain practical experience and
supervision.
Each regional consortium is led by a host school that organizes quarterly meetings,
helping ensure consistent, high-quality practicum training for future MFT professionals.
Campbellsville University, LA Education Center facilitates monthly Zoom meetings of
the eight regional school hosts, that is also attended by the California Association
of Marriage and Family Therapists. The university also provides administrative assistance
in preparing agendas, completing minutes, and circulating important documents.
The eight regional MFT consortia form the MFT Leadership Collaborative, which meets
regularly to support MFT education and clinical training statewide. Facilitated by
Phillips Graduate University, this group strengthens the profession through cooperation
in governance and advocacy.
In 2008, the Collaborative secured a grant from the California Department of Mental
Health to offer educational stipends to MFT students dedicated to public mental health
service, especially in underserved communities.
Phillips Graduate University served as the legal administrator for the stipend program,
which awarded 812 stipends from 2008 to 2018. These recipients went on to work across
40 counties in California, helping meet critical mental health needs.
