The Division of Natural Sciences at Campbellsville University provides a rigorous, Christ-centered education for students passionate about understanding the natural world. Through programs in biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, and physics, students gain a strong foundation in scientific principles, laboratory techniques, and research methods. Our faculty foster curiosity and integrity, preparing graduates for meaningful careers in research, healthcare, education, and environmental stewardship. Education and Research for Students
Clay Hill Memorial Forest (CHMF) is a 305-acre research and education woodland managed by Campbellsville University as a regional center for environmental learning and conservation. Dedicated to studying the eastern deciduous forest ecosystem, CHMF promotes awareness of the ecological, recreational, and economic importance of forests while supporting sustainable management and stewardship practices.
Used regularly for field labs in ecology, entomology, ornithology, and conservation biology, the Forest provides students with hands-on research and real-world field experience. Many undergraduates conduct or assist with projects that deepen their understanding of environmental science and resource management. Who Can Use CHMF:
CHMF is held in trust by Campbellsville University for the people of Kentucky and all who visit. It welcomes:
- Educators and Students - for outdoor classes and research projects
- Scouting and Youth Groups - for hiking and merit badge activities
- Landowners and Farmers - to observe sustainable forest management
- Community Visitors - for recreation, reflection, and nature study
Visitors are asked to follow forest rules and exit by dusk.
Management and Oversight: CHMF is managed by personnel from the Department of Biology of the Natural Science Division of Campbellsville University in accordance with the Clay Hill Mission Statement. Guidance is provided by a Board of Advisors composed of experts in forestry, ecology, and conservation education.
Support CHMF: Join the Friends of the Forest, a donor group supporting student research, conservation projects, and community education. Become a Friend of the Forest and help sustain hands-on learning and environmental stewardship.

The Biology, B.A. or B.S. program provides students with a strong foundation in the study of living systems, from molecular and cellular biology to ecology and physiology. Graduates are well prepared for careers in science, healthcare, research, and graduate study. We also offer Biology as a minor.

The Biology with Teacher Certification, B.A. or B.S. degree, prepares students to teach biology at the secondary level through a balance of scientific study and teacher education. Students develop a deep understanding of life sciences while learning effective, faith-based instructional practices.
