Program Overview

Campbellsville University’s Master of Arts in Music (M.A.M.) is a flexible, academically rigorous program that prepares students for careers in music research, worship leadership, and church music ministry. With concentrations in Musicology and Worship, the program is ideal for musicians who want to deepen their knowledge of music’s meaning, history, and role in faith communities. Designed for both full-time students and working professionals, the M.A.M. supports artistic development and critical thinking in a Christ-centered environment.

 

Concentration Overview

Campbellsville University’s Master of Arts in Music offers two distinct concentrations to prepare students for their specific goals in music and ministry.

Engage in scholarly study of music history, literature, and analysis. This concentration prepares students for roles in teaching, academic research, or further graduate study (e.g., Ph.D.). You'll explore music’s historical and cultural impact while developing advanced research and writing skills.

Designed for church musicians and worship leaders, this concentration integrates theological study with musical training. Courses explore worship planning, leadership, congregational music, and the role of music in spiritual formation, equipping students to lead effectively in local church settings and beyond.

 

  • Concentration Options: Two tracks allow you to specialize in either scholarly music studies or practical worship leadership.
  • Graduate-Level Research: Learn how to conduct, write, and present advanced research in music and theology.
  • Worship Integration: Study the theological and musical foundations of worship for leadership in church settings.
  • Christ-Centered Approach: Explore the relationship between faith, music, and service throughout the curriculum.
  • Capstone Project or Thesis: Demonstrate your learning and focus area through a culminating project or written thesis.

The M.A.M. program is offered on campus at Campbellsville University. Students complete core courses in music research, history, and theory, along with specialized coursework in their chosen concentration. To be admitted into the Master of Arts in Music (M.A.M.) program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Related Field: Must be from an accredited institution.
  • Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all previous college or university coursework.
  • Writing Sample or Portfolio: Submit an academic writing sample or relevant portfolio, depending on concentration.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Provide two letters from academic or professional references.
  • Minimum GPA Requirement: Applicants must meet the graduate program’s academic standards.

These requirements ensure students are well-prepared for advanced academic and practical study.

Graduates of the M.A.M. program are prepared for careers such as:
