Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Bands

Since August of 2025, Matt Wooten has been serving as the Director of Bands at Campbellsville University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Western Kentucky University, as well as a Masters in Music Education from the University of Cincinnati's College Conservatory of Music. Prior to his current position Mr. Wooten was the Director of Bands and the Director of the Christian Academy School of the Arts. Under his direction the music program at Christian Academy grew from 50 students in 2003 to over 530 students in grades 5-12 at the end of his last year. The CAL Wind Ensemble program was created in 2008 and performed at the Grade VI level and has received a Distinguished or Superior rating consistently in multiple years at both the State and the National levels. In 2018 this ensemble earned the Golden Mickey Award for Concert Bands at the Festival Disney competition in Orlando. Started in 2007, the Marching Centurions are 2x KMEA Class AA State finalists (2013, 2024). In 2022 the Marching Centurions finished 2nd at the Bands of America Obetz regional in class A. Mr. Wooten developed and directed the Christian Academy School of the Arts, with the help of an incredible staff.
Mr. Wooten is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity and the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster’s Fraternity. Mr. Wooten has presented clinics at both the KMEA Director’s Conference and at the prestigious Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Conference. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Conducting from the University of Kentucky under Dr. Cody Birdwell.
He has been married to his wife Leslie for 28 years. Together they have two children, Sammy, a bassoonist currently attending Western Kentucky University as a Music Education major and Hannah, who is currently a student at WKU alongside her brother as a double major in Music and Psychology
