Dean of the School of Music and Professor of Music

Dr. Cunha joined the faculty of Campbellsville University in January 2007. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in worship, music history, and conducting. On January 1, 2013, Cunha was appointed dean of the School of Music after serving as associate dean for four years. He has also served as the Art & Design Department chair since July 2019.
Dr. Cunha holds degrees from Brazilian academic institutions and received a Master of Music and a Ph.D. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX.
Before joining Campbellsville University, Cunha spent 14 years on the music faculty at North Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary, where he taught music history, conducting, and church music, and directed the Seminary Choir. He also served as director of choral activities, assistant chair, and chair of the Church Music Department. Dr. Cunha was active as a guest conductor and clinician in Brazil. He received the 2006 “Prêmio Arthur Lakschevitz,” awarded by the Baptist Church Music Association for outstanding teaching, scholarship, and contributions to church music.
Dr. Cunha has been very active since arriving at Campbellsville University. He has served as an adjudicator for choral festivals, an officer in the KY-American Choral Directors Association, the Kentucky Music Educators Association District 4 College/University Representative, past president of the Central Kentucky Arts Series, and secretary/treasurer and president of the Kentucky Association of Music Programs in Higher Education (KAMPHE).
He has been a guest conductor for various choral groups and has served as the director of the Kentucky Baptist Men’s Chorale since 2010. He is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Baptist Church Music Conference, the American Musicological Society, and the College Music Education.
