CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. - David Yax, an artist from Cincinnati, Ohio, will have his artwork on display at Campbellsville University's Art Gallery, 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, through Sept. 10.

A reception in his honor is Saturday, Sept. 4 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the gallery. Everyone is invited to attend both the reception and exhibit.

Yax, the youngest member to have ever been inducted into the Southern Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsman, will show assemblages, paintings and mono prints.

His mono prints are one-of-a kind pieces of abstract art not computer generated. Thin layers of pure, dry, ground pigment, along with goldleaf, silver and colored foil, are themosealed onto paper. Each color and shape is added one at a time. Each piece is unique for this unusual process.

His paintings range from architectural to organic. Most of the paintings in the show are recent works produced in the last year. “I am quite proud of this offering of fresh, diverse work, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do,” he said.

Yax was a senior buyer and planner with Display Specialities Inc. in Wilder, Ky. from 1989 to 2009. He directed, designed and sourced customer programs for Kroger, Walmart and other major retailers.

Yax said his artwork is not a hobby; it's a passion. “Art is truly my life's work. I have always known I was an artist from my earlier recollections.”

He has been producing and selling artwork for over 30 years and has sold his artwork to clients nationwide.

He is a 1981 honors graduate from Franklin-Simpson High School as well as Western Kentucky University where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1985.

“As satisfying as it is to sell a painting, I would much rather create art that I love,” he said.

His artwork comes from images with his own creative mind's eye. Focusing on mostly abstract subject matter, he intends for most of his artwork to be “true art, not something I create purely for marketability.”

Yax has had exhibitions of his work at The Gallery on the Square in Franklin, Ky., and The Wingspan Gallery in Lexington. His art is available at Memphis Marshas Gallery in Bowling Green, Ky.

Yax and his wife have one daughter.
