CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University will host Dr. Jim Denison, founding president of the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture, at chapel at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 in the Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.
The chapel is free and open to the public.
“Dr. Jim Denison is a highly regarded speaker and writer and is described as a cultural apologist who seeks to build bridges between faith and culture.He seeks to engage current issues with biblical truth,” John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president, said.
“His Denison Forum on Truth and Culture was established in 2009 as a platform to help expand his dual roles as minister and commentator.Dr. Denison authors a cultural commentary that is posted daily at www.denisonforum.org and distributed to nearly 20,000 subscribers.
“His presentations at Campbellsville University, and interaction with faculty, staff and students promise to be among the primary highlights of the 2011-2012 academic year.”
In February 2009, Denison founded the Denison Forum on Truth and Culture to “advance spiritual awakening by offering biblical answers to life's ultimate questions.”
Denison pastored Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas (a 10,000-member congregation) for ten years prior to founding the Denison Forum. He has also pastored churches in Midland and Mansfield, Texas, and Atlanta, Ga.
The Baptist General Convention of Texas and BaptistWay use his weekly Sunday school commentaries as an online teaching tool.
Denison earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy of Religion and Master of Divinity from Southwestern Seminary and received a Doctor of Divinity degree from Dallas Baptist University.
Denison has served as Theologian in Residence for Texas Baptists and is teaching Ph.D. seminars and graduate level classes for Dallas Baptist University along with serving as a teaching fellow for the B.H. Carroll Theological Institute. He has also taught on the faculty of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and at McAfee School of Theology. He has served on the boards of Dallas Baptist University, Truett Theological Seminary and the Center for Christian Ethics at Baylor University.
Denison is serving on the board of the Baylor Health Care System and as chair of the advisory board for Dallas Baptist University.
Denison is the author of seven books: “Radical Islam: What You Need to Know,” “Wrestling with God: How Can I Love a God I'm Not Sure I Can Trust?,” “The Bible-You Can Believe It: Biblical Authority in the Twenty-First Century,” “The Myth and The Manger,” “Life on the Brick Pile: Answers to Suffering from the Letters of Revelation,” “Seven Crucial Questions About the Bible” and “It's Your Mission: The Church's Responsibility to the Least of These.”
He also writes for the Dallas Morning News, contributing weekly to the “Texas Faith Forum.”
Denison has spoken in China, Cuba, Brazil, Australia, Europe, Israel, Greece, Egypt, Bangladesh and Turkey. He also served as a short-term missionary to East Malaysia in Southeast Asia. He also leads frequent study tours in Israel, Greece and Europe.
Denison's wife, Janet, is an author and speaker also. They have two sons: Ryan, a ministry student at Truett Seminary, and Craig, a student at Dallas Baptist University.
Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
All chapels are open to the public free of charge and are televised live on WLCU- (Campbellsville Cable channel 10) and are streamed live on the Internet.
