CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville Center of Campbellsville University is expanding bachelor and graduate degree programs in business and education offered in the Louisville regional area.
“Evidence of this commitment to expanding offerings at the Louisville Center,” according to Dr. Keith Spears, vice president for regional and professional education, “is the hiring of Dr. Ann Moore as the program coordinator for the new master's of business administration degree and Dr. Kathleen Filkins as the education program coordinator at the Louisville Center.”
Moore, of Bardstown, Ky., is a business person with a wealth of experience in the central Kentucky area. Moore began her career in business working with Col. Harland Sanders in Louisville, Ky., and Swope Automotive group. After a grounding in real-world marketing experiences, Moore entered higher education as chair of marketing at Sullivan University, and chair of the new business program St. Catharine College.
She has worked two decades in higher education and brings that experience to the Louisville Center of Campbellsville University. Moore is an advocate for small businesses and students and continually focuses on the success of both, Spears said.
Moore's motto, “We teach more than business,” indicates the program's focus on ethics,
community service and leadership, Spears said.
Filkins, also of Bardstown, an educator with teaching experience in elementary, middle,
secondary and higher education, was formerly at the University of Southern Indiana,
and collaboratively designed and directed the new teacher education program for St.
Catharine College.
Spears said Filkins is now charged with overseeing the needs of the interdisciplinary early childhood education (IECE) program already established at the Louisville Center and expanding Campbellsville's new Rank 1 program to area teachers.
“The IECE program degree is having an immediate impact on preschools and kindergartens in regional school districts as experienced early childhood educators are expanding and improving their credentials,” Spears said.
He said new IECE graduates from area two-year institutions are able to move forward completing their bachelor's degrees and acquire teaching certification.
The newest education program to the Louisville Center is a Rank 1 program that allows experienced teachers to develop a new area of expertise or to update and strengthen a familiar area.
The Rank 1 program, offered both at the main campus and at the Louisville Center, allows for professional specialty electives, including diverse areas such as gifted and talented education, English as a Second Language, special education and environmental education. Some of these professional specialty options lead to an additional teaching endorsement. The professional education component of the Rank 1 program supports and guides each candidate as they collaboratively develop a school project guided by their school improvement plan and assessment data.
The importance of the Rank 1 Program for area educators, Filkins said, is that it is grounded in the immediate needs of area schools. “This program allows educators to individually design advanced coursework meeting their personal needs, interests and those of the school community in which they work.”
