Beverly Rowland, instructor in nursing at Campbellsville University, has been awarded the Kathryn M. Mershon Nursing Faculty Scholarship at the Kentucky League for Nursing annual meeting.
Rowland has served in her position at Campbellsville University since 2007. She also served as interim dean of the School of Nursing.
The scholarship is an award toward her doctoral studies at Indiana University School of Nursing in Indianapolis, Ind.
“The Kathryn M. Mershon Nursing Faculty Scholarship is awarded to honor a nurse who has worked tirelessly to improve nursing education and the nursing workforce in Kentucky and throughout the nation,” according to the Kentucky League for Nursing website.
Rowland, of Columbia, Ky., has served in many roles during 37 years as a registered nurse, including hospital nursing, community health nursing, management and leadership roles, peer review, quality management and school health. Rowland became a registered nurse in 1973.
In August 2009, Rowland achieved her national certification as a nurse educator with the National League for Nursing.
Rowland graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2007 with a master of science in nursing, with emphasis in nurse educator and family nurse practitioner. She is a lifetime member of the Western Kentucky University Alumni Association.
She also graduated from McKendree College with honors in 2005 with a bachelor of science in nursing. Rowland received her associate of science degree in nursing from Henderson Community College in 1973.
Rowland is a member of several professional associations including American Nurses Association, Kentucky Nurses Association, Professional Nursing Practice & Advocacy Cabinet in the Education Role, National League for Nursing, Kentucky League for Nursing and Kappa Theta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Rowland and her husband, David, have two grown sons, Bob and Kyle, and two grandsons, Kaiden and Noah.
