CU to celebrate Earth Day April 16

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - An Earth Day ceremony will be held Monday, April 16 at 10 a.m. in the Log Cabin park area on campus, at the corner of North Columbia Avenue and University Drive.

The event is free and open to the public.

Earth Day is an international environmental event to mark the efforts of protecting the biodiversity on planet Earth. CU Freshman Year Experience classes of Dr. Richie Kessler, associate professor of biology/environmental studies program coordinator, and Brenda Tungate, associate professor of biology, are hosting a Rain Garden celebration to honor Earth Day as part of a servant leadership project.

The ceremony will consist of presentations on the meaning of earth stewardship, creation care and the significance of Earth Day. There will also be several bushes and flowers planted by CU Freshman Year Experience students and elementary students.

Spencer Adams, a senior from Marion, Ohio, president of the Green Minds, student environmental group, will be among the speakers as will John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president; Tony Young, mayor of Campbellsville, and Eddie Rogers, Taylor County judge/executive.
