CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University is hosting a legacy series art exhibit show from Jan. 30 to Feb 17. The exhibit is part of a legacy series with a show by a teacher and former students, and consists of ceramics by Tonya Johnson and former students Amy Rench, Richard Rheinberg, Jamie Herman and Ted Herman.

The exhibit will take place in the Art Gallery, located at 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, and is free and open to the public.

Johnson, originally from the mountains of Pike County, Ky., moved to Louisville in 1991 to complete a degree in biology at the University of Louisville. In January of 1992, pursuing a lifetime desire, she enrolled in her first ceramics class.

She received a master's degree in the creative arts, concentration in ceramics following in 1999. Since then Tonya has continued to pursue her passion for clay and established Payne Street Pottery as a working and teaching studio in August 2000.

Johnson said cooking and feeding people is an important part of her life and she is drawn to making large vessels for holding and serving food. She enjoys creating functional, plentiful, serviceable, and inexpensive pottery.

“As a potter my goal is to make utilitarian ware that is equally aesthetically pleasing and conveniently useful,” Johnson said.

Campbellsville University is a widely acclaimed Kentucky-based Christian university with more than 3,500 students offering 63 undergraduate options, 17 master's degrees, five postgraduate areas and eight pre-professional programs. The website for complete information is campbellsville.edu.
