CU’s Dr. Tony Cunha receives promotion

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Dr. Alcingstone “Tony” Cunha, assistant professor of music and associate dean of the School of Music at Campbellsville University, has been promoted to associate professor of music and associate dean of the School of Music, according to an announcement from Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of Campbellsville University.

Before coming to Campbellsville University in 2007, Cunha served for 14 years on the music faculty of North Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary in Recife, Brazil. Teaching responsibilities at the Seminary included music history, conducting and church music courses.

From 2003 to 2006, Cunha was the dean of the School of Church Music at NBBTS. He also served as a featured and guest speaker in several conferences around the country, featured conductor and guest conductor of choir and orchestras, and guest professor in academic institutions.

Cunha serves as coordinator of undergraduate programs for CU's School of Music. Teaching responsibilities for Cunha include courses in church music, both undergraduate and graduate levels, and conducting for the graduate level. In addition to teaching these courses, Cunha directs the University Chorale and New Doxology, a contemporary ensemble.

Cunha is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Collegiate Choral Organization, the Baptist Church Music Conference, the Kentucky Baptist Men's Chorale, and is on the board of the Central Kentucky Arts Series.

Cunha has served as a minister of music in churches in Brazil and the United States.
