Campbellsville University chooses Kelsey Best as Miss Valentine

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Kelsey Best, a sophomore from Harrodsburg, Ky., has been named the 2011 Miss Valentine Pageant queen at Campbellsville University.

Student Government Association hosted the Miss Valentine Pageant Feb. 11 in Ransdell Chapel on the campus of Campbellsville University. The theme was “At Last” by Etta James.

Jesslyn Long, a junior from Stanford, Ky. representing the Junior Class, was first runner-up, and Sarah Houk, a junior from Campbellsville representing SWITCH social work club, was second runner-up.

Houk was also the winner of the talent competition. She sang “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from the hit 1978 movie Grease.

Best represented Student Government Association. She was the winner of the poise and appearance competition, wearing a light pink dress embroidered with rhinestones, and she also won the interview portion of the competition.

Summer Rines, a sophomore from Louisville representing Stapp Hall, won Miss Congeniality, and Andrew McNeill, a senior from Louisville, Tenn., won best escort.

Other candidates for the pageant were: Jessica Walden, a junior from Burlington, Ky. representing Sigma Zeta, escorted by Lucas Arnold; Jess Harris, a junior from Louisville representing BCM, escorted by her father Tim Harris; Melanie Jones, a sophomore from Albany, Ky. representing the Honors Program, escorted by Matthew Savage; Anita Henestrosa, a sophomore from Switzerland representing PRSSA, escorted by Angel Marquez;

Kim Baker, a senior from Louisville representing KEA-SP, escorted by Andrew McNeill; Chellsey Phillips, a sophomore from Fort Knox, Ky. representing the Village, escorted by Brad Travis; and Sarah Ames, a sophomore from Elizabethtown representing the Art Department, escorted by Michael Chandler.

Long was escorted by Jordan Kelsey, Sarah Houk was escorted by Stephen Houk, Best was escorted by Zachary Myers, and Rines was escorted by Kevin Metzger.

The judges for the evening were Ronald Curry, Susan Stringer and Connie Shuffett.
