CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— Dr. Joseph Owens, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky., and chair of the Campbellsville University Board of Trustees, will be speaking at Campbellsville University's chapel at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27 as a part of the Holy Week Chapel. Chapel is held in the Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville. Everyone is invited.
Owens graduated from Campbellsville College in 1977 with a bachelor of arts in Christian studies. He has since won the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award during Campbellsville University's Homecoming celebration. He has served on the CU Board of Trustees since 2004 and is in his second year as chair.
Owens, a native of Lebanon, Ky., became licensed to preach in 1975 at First Baptist Church in Campbellsville, Ky., and became ordained in 1980 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky.
He graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1980 with a master of divinity and a master of religious education degree. In 2000, he graduated from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio with a doctor of ministry.
Owens served as pastor at Second Baptist Church in Vincennes, Ind. for seven years, and Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, Ky. for 11 years.
He serves as chairman for the Black Church Coalition of the Bluegrass in Lexington, Ky. He is a member of several boards including Building a United Interfaith Lexington through Direct Action, Direct Action Research Training (DART) and North Lexington Branch YMCA. He also serves as a moderator of the Consolidated District Baptist Association.
Owens is married to his wife Elizabeth, also a 1977 graduate of CU. She is employed with the Fayette County School System as a child guidance specialist. The couple has two children, Charisa Jené and John Mark.
