CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Finding Campbellsville University will now be easy with the addition of a new main entrance to the campus following the construction and dedication of the new Alumni & Friends Park, Noe Plaza Oct. 26.
And in recognition of the dedication, Saturday, Oct. 26 was designated “Campbellsville University Day” with a proclamation by Campbellsville Mayor Tony Young, a two-time CU graduate, and Taylor County Judge/Executive Eddie Rogers who were among the speakers at the dedication.
Young said there is energy and excitement from the university that creates $101 million into the local economy. Rogers said, “God is at work at the university.”
Campbellsville University president Michael V. Carter said the project was a joint effort by the city, county and the university and has created an “entrance to Christian education.” He said CU will not be hidden anymore when visitors come to town.
The entrance, located at the corner of Broadway and North Columbia Avenue, has been built with $285,000 from 212 donors with 95 percent of the park complete. The fundraising goal is $360,000.
“The donations are from those who love Christian higher education and believe in the mission of Campbellsville University,” Carter said.
Carter thanked several donors but especially Dr. Larry and Beverly Noe, who have donated funding for Noe Plaza in memory of his father and mother, James L. Noe Sr. and Louise B. Noe, for whom the plaza is named. Larry Noe is a long-time member of the CU Board of Trustees.

Carter also thanked Dr. G. Ted Taylor, director of the Big Maroon Club at CU, and his wife Sheri, for the creation of the Taylor Fountain. They turned on the fountain during the dedication. Donations were given to the fountain in honor of the couple.
Dr. Joseph Owens, chair of the CU Board of Trustees, said the board takes seriously the directives in the Bible in Matthew and Luke about being servant leaders, and the board members work hard to make the university a place where students become Christian servant leaders.
He said the board continues to see that great work is being done at CU, they believe in the great work between the city and community and the board invites more alumni and friends to “catch the vision” and join the board in the journey of transforming lives one at a time.
Student Government Association president Jacqueline Nelson, a senior from Campbellsville, thanked those attending for all they do for students giving the students hope for the future.
Benji Kelly, vice president for development, was master of ceremonies for the event. “It’s exciting to see the dream of this park become a reality. CU is moving forward to create Christian servant leaders,” he said.
Kwaku Osebreh, president of the Board of Alumni, gave the prayer of dedication.

Planning for the park originated three years ago. Construction began in July 2012.
