Program Overview
Our COAMFTE-accredited Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) program is dedicated to preparing compassionate, skilled clinicians who are equipped to support individuals, couples, and families through life’s challenges. Rooted in systemic, relational, and evidence-based practices, our program emphasizes ethical practice, cultural humility, and professional integrity. With a blend of academic rigor and practical experience, students develop the tools to foster meaningful change, promote emotional well-being, and strengthen relationships in a variety of communities.

To be admitted into the Louisville Marriage and Family Therapy program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Completed application for graduate admission
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 (cumulative or last 60 hours)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Personal statement outlining your goals and interest in the MMFT program
- Interview with Program Faculty
Once all materials are received, applications are reviewed and interviews are scheduled. Admission decisions include full acceptance, conditional acceptance, or denial. Applications are accepted year-round, and enrollment is available each academic term. Materials must be submitted at least 30 days before the desired term.

All MMFT graduates must complete a comprehensive examination consisting of MFT content to receive their diploma. Students are eligible to take the comprehensive examination once coursework is satisfactorily completed. Students must pass the comprehensive examination before they participate in graduation activities. A passing score is 70% or higher. If a student does not succeed in their first attempt to pass the examination, an analysis of concern areas is conducted, and the student is provided an additional opportunity to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
