Theatre and Dance Audition Information

Audition Details
Below you’ll find current audition dates, requirements, and information for auditioning for the program.
BFA in Musical Theatre Program Admission
Our aim is to admit applicants of character who show strong potential as professional
artists and educators. We seek students that are driven by a desire for personal excellence
and capable of respectful collaboration.
PRESCREEN
Admission into the BFA Musical Theatre program is by audition after application to the university. An initial audition prescreening is completed via video submission through the Acceptd website. Once all of the prescreen materials have been submitted, they will be reviewed by our faculty. If a prospective student shows the potential to succeed creatively, academically, and personally through the submitted materials, an on-campus audition will be scheduled.
Campbellsville University is a participating institution in the Musical Theater Common Prescreen. Our criteria from prospective students includes the following submitted via Acceptd:
- Headshot/Resume
- Slate video
- Song Requirement - Option A: Two contrasting songs, one written before 1970
- Monologue Requirement - Option A: One monologue from a published play/writer
- Dance Requirement - Option B: Applicant’s best dance/movement (No ballet req’d - Option C)
- Wild Card video (optional, but recommended)
- Personal and Artistic References (2)
IN-PERSON AUDITION
2025 AUDITION DATES - MARCH 1ST & APRIL 26TH
The on-campus, in-person auditions will consist of creative evaluations and a cultural interview. Audition days will begin with a morning meeting for parents and students where program details, the day’s activities, and subsequent steps will be explained. This will be followed by a 45-minute to 1-hour dance class/evaluation and then a short break for students to prepare for their auditions. Each audition will be 15 minutes in length allowing time for an interview after audition materials are performed. CU Enrollment will be available for campus tours for students and their families around their audition times.

PROGRAM ADMISSION DECISIONS
After campus auditions, the Admission Committee will determine whether a student will be immediately invited into the program, waitlisted until the close of auditions/decision day, or declined. All current applications should have a decision by two weeks after the end of the last campus auditions. Late submissions will be considered on a per case basis.
Admission decisions will be made based on a comprehensive consideration of the following:
- Prescreen videos
- Live audition
- Dance class
- Interview
- References
- Academic record/indicators
- Fit to Culture/Program/Cohort

25-26 Theatre and Dance Auditions
Priority Fall Audition – October 4 - by invitation only
Requirements must be completed by last day of September:
- Completed application submitted to CU
- BFA Application submitted via Acceptd or Performance Grant Application submitted
Grants and Scholarships from the Priority Fall Audition will be awarded by November 1
-Awards must be accepted by November 15 or funds will be released.
-FAFSA information must be received promptly by CU (school code 001959) so that awards can be approved by the Office of Financial Aid. Funds will be released if FAFSA information is not received by February 15.
Spring Audition #1 – Saturday of Spring Play - by invitation only, Feb 21, 2025
Requirements must be completed by February 15:
- Completed application submitted to CU
- BFA Application submitted via Acceptd or Performance Grant Application submitted
FAFSA information must be received promptly by CU (school code 001959) so that awards can be approved by the Office of Financial Aid. Funds will not be awarded if FAFSA information is not received by March 15.
Spring Audition #2* – Saturday of Spring Preview Day - by invitation only
*Final Audition Day for Fall Admission to BFA in Musical Theatre Program
Requirements must be completed by March15:
- Completed application submitted to CU
- 2. BFA Application submitted via Acceptd or Performance Grant Application submitted
- FAFSA information received by CU (school code 001959)
Grants and Scholarships from Spring Audition #1 and #2 will be awarded by April 15
-Awards must be accepted by April 30, or funds will be released.
Priority Application Policy
Campbellsville University Theatre and Dance has three submission tiers for grants (Priority, Early, and General Submissions). Students who complete applications by the priority deadline will be considered for larger award amounts and are more likely to receive awards than those submitting applications by the early or general submission deadlines.
Priority applications are eligible for all department grants. These applicants are given top consideration for grants and awards.

Early applications are considered for most of the department grants, but some of larger award values may not be available.

General applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis; however, applicants will only be considered for limited grant opportunities when funds are available.
