The School of Education is proud to announce Dr. Valarie Flanagan has received the award for Online Faculty of the Year for 2023-24. School of Education Dean Dr. Robin Magruder nominated Dr. Flanagan for the 2023-24 academic year. She was also nominated by recently retired Dean Dr. Lisa Allen in AY 22-23.
Dr. Magruder added: “Dr. Flanagan works tirelessly as the school of education graduate chair. She does an excellent job teaching her courses. She consistently receives positive student evaluations. She creates curriculum guides with quick turn-around. She responds to students immediately and puts these needs first. She does a great job leading the graduate program with over 600 students. She provides guidance and structure to graduate faculty.”
The award criteria for Online Faculty of the Year is as follows:
- Demonstrates an outstanding example of fully-online teaching methods, pedagogy, and instructional design.
- Demonstrates innovation and creativity in fully-online course delivery strategies.
- Demonstrates significant student learning through active engagement, feedback and responsiveness.
- Demonstrates attentiveness to fully-online student needs and academic progress.
When asked for her thoughts concerning this honor, Dr. Flanagan shared:
“I am honored to receive this, and I appreciate the nomination this year as well as the previous nomination by Dr. Allen. We have outstanding students in the School of Education, and it certainly takes teamwork to make the graduate program successful. We appreciate the strong relationships we have with the CU online graduate team led by Dr. Garrison. Dr. Morrow and Dr. Fulks continue to play key roles in assisting our colleagues and students in our larger programs. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with everyone in future endeavors.”
