Master of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MSDSAI)

The Master of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MSDS-AI) program is a STEM program designed to attract and retain students with a background in Computer Science or IT Management. Implementation of this will aid in attracting international students from other institutions who already have an MSCS degree, and retaining international students who have completed one or more other Master’s degree at Campbellsville University. Data Science is an emerging field and very few universities have degrees in this area.

Students in this program will learn how to implement Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in organizations to solve practical problems. They will identify which problems and opportunities are right for AI through Data Science, and how to maximize the likelihood of success. Specific methodologies are introduced to help the practitioner limit risk and provide tangible value to their organizations through creating production-level AI and DS systems to ensure quality decision-making processes.

The mission of the MSDS-AI program is to prepare students as Christian servant leaders for life-long learning, continued scholarship by linking discovery research to knowledge and practical application in the workplace, to foster active participation in a diverse global society, and prepare students for further study at the doctoral level.

The goals of the School of Business Economics and Technology include offering programs on the cutting edge of Information Technology. This program fits well with the existing Master of Science in Information Technology Management (MSITM), Professions Master of Business Administration (PMBA), Master of Management in Leadership (MML), and Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS).

Master of Science in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (MSDAI) is now offered to be completed Online. Visit M.S. in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Online for more information.

This program is consistent with the mission of Campbellsville University – the university prepares Christian servant leaders for life-long learning, continued scholarship, and active participation in a diverse, global society and to model servant leadership and effective stewardship.

The specific learning outcomes for the program include the following:

  • Students will be able to formulate a well-developed problem-solving data science and artificial intelligence solution that clearly demonstrates an understanding of end user requirements.
  • Students will be able to critique the opportunities and challenges associated with a rapidly advancing technological society and apply advanced data science and artificial intelligence theories that will address existing business needs.
  • Students will be able to evaluate compliance issues and build a set of best practices addressing specific data science and artificial intelligence problems.
  • Students will be able to constructively build and present an effective project that will illustrate a current technical problem, offer potential solutions, and provide a single set of recommendations.
  • Students will be able to construct coherent form of narrative, expository, and persuasive presentation used to engage and justify a set of potential solutions.

The student learning outcomes will be assessed in the DS 621 Business Project in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Capstone course using a Research Report and a Presentation Project.

Course descriptions for the program include the following:

DS610 Technical Writing
This course prepares students to design effective documents for technical, or business writing for both written and digital media with emphasis upon technical memos, letters, reports, and proposals. Emphasis will be placed on clarity, conciseness, and accuracy of expression. To support these writing tasks, the course introduces principles of audience analysis, research and documentation, drafting and revision processes, effective use of graphics, and basic web technologies.
DS611 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
This course will introduce students to analytical technologies and the fundamental methods, techniques, and software used to design and develop systems. This course is focused on analytics and its enabling technologies, including AI, machine-learning, robotics, chatbots, and Internet of Things.
DS612 Project Management Analytics
This course demonstrates how analytics bridges the gap between raw data and effective decision-making in even the most challenging project environments. Through real-world examples and case studies, students will explore the application of project management with modern analytics tools, technologies, and processes, and integrate them with approaches such as PMBOK, Lean Six Sigma DMAIC, and Deming’s PDSA.
DS614 Design Thinking
This is design Thinking is a design methodology that provides solutions approach to solving complex problems. The five-stage design thinking model proposed by Hasso-Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford University. The elements of the 5-stage model will be discussed are the following: Empathize, define (the problem), ideate, prototype, and test. This course is intended to assist students to design better products, services, user experiences, architectures, and innovative strategies to improve business processes.
DS615 Database Mining and Warehousing
This course is foundational to the practice of data science. The student will leave the class with a broad set of practical data analytic skills based on data discovery, cleansing, building real analytic applications on real data. These skills include accessing and transferring data, applying various analytical frameworks always keeping business goals in mind. The study will include aspects of descriptive and predictive analysis, optimization and simulation, as well as Big Data concept and tools. Future trends and emerging technologies are included in this study.
DS616 Ethical Issues for AI
This course introduces students to current ethical issues for artificial intelligence and examines the ethical implications that can be brough on potentially by incorporating more AI to our society. Students will recognize the “machine ethics”. of artificial intelligence and explain what those ethics are. Students will define AI systems, for decision support and predictive analysis will be.
DS617 Artificial Intelligence Applications
Easy to understand roadmap for how to take an organization through the adoption of AI technology. It will first help with the identification of which business problems and opportunities are right for AI and how to prioritize them to maximize the likelihood of success. Specific methodologies are introduced to help with finding critical training data within an organization and how to fill data gaps if they exist. With data in hand, a scoped prototype can be built to limit risk and provide tangible value to the organization as a whole to justify further investment. Finally, a production level AI system can be developed with best practices to ensure quality with not only the application code, but also the AI models.
DS618 Transforming the Global Supply Chain with A.I.
This class looks at the “state-of-the-art” AI and analytics capabilities, and how they drive supply chains, from marketing to sourcing. We will look at disruptive and transformational AI and analytics technology in an end-to-end supply chain. This includes information technology, process and product technologies, Blockchains, 3-D printing, and AI/analytics driven technology relevant to supply chains. We will understand what makes them work, learn to question the assumptions behind the algorithms, learn to understand the data that drives them, and consider the trade-offs decision makers must make when using them.
DS619 Blockchain Technology
We study a future that consists of thousands, if not millions of blockchains that will enable not only frictionless value exchange, but also a new flow of value, redefining roles, relationships, power and governance. We make two other strategic assertions. First, the blockchain has polymorphic characteristics; its application will result in a multiplicity of effects. Second, we shouldn’t ask ourselves what problems the blockchain solves, because that gives us a narrow view on its potential. Rather, we should imagine new opportunities, and tackle even more ambitious problems that cross organizational, regulatory and mental boundaries
DS621 Business Project in Big Data and AI (Capstone)
In this course, students will design a project that will demonstrate the skills and knowledge accumulated in this program. The project delivered at the end of this class should demonstrate an understanding of the problems in the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science area, analyze the problem, and design solutions using appropriate tools and techniques. This course’s outcome should be a document that demonstrated the students understand of the program area fully from start to finish, from proposal to development of the problem, from designing solutions to the presentation of the solution to an audience.
