International Communities Navigator, The City of Bowling Green, Bowling Green, KY

The primary purpose of the position will be connecting refugees and immigrants to key services under the supervision of the International Communities Coordinator. The ideal candidate must be a community leader that will provide quality and reliable information and services to all members of the international community in an empowering and effective way. The navigator will also serve as liaison to and point of contact for, community service organizations, local non-profit organizations, and faith-based organizations in order to provide services and support the successful integration of immigrants and refugees to Bowling Green/Warren County.

DUTIES: Help individuals and families navigate and access resources and other basic needs, including accompany individuals in accessing services. Provide education on how to access City services and other resources through community engagement activities. Assist with verbal interpretation and translation of vital documents and educational materials from English to target language. Develop partnerships with local institutions to increase support and services to New Americans. Collaborate with a wide variety of non-profit, educational, and philanthropic organizations to communicate challenges in order to address barriers and build alliances. Assist in building leadership within the local ethnic/cultural community to create a team of local navigators in an effort to expand outreach and build resources to assist families in sustaining local employment opportunities and connecting to educational and social service programs. Support all functions of the International Communities Division.

REQUIREMENTS: High school education or equivalent. Experience working with refugee and immigrant communities, community advocacy and organizing. Bilingual in English and a major language represented by the international community in Bowling Green is required. Ability to build relationships and work effectively with people of diverse social, faith, economic and racial/ethnic backgrounds. Willingness to work flexible hours; evenings and weekends required. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must obtain training to become a qualified competent interpreter within first year of employment (i.e. Bridging the Gap Medical Interpreter Training and/or equivalent)

SALARY: Pay grade 115, $43,301/annually, $20.82/hourly

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week. Flexible schedule with night and weekend hours required.
