Medical Staff Educator – RN, Home of the Innocents, Louisville, KY

Job Summary:

The Medical Educator assesses, plans, develops, presents, and evaluates educational activities for team members and collaborates with program leadership to achieve goals related to learning and competence. The role focuses on professional development of new team members during the orientation process, and all team members with in-service educational programs and learning opportunities to ensure residents in the Kosair Charities Pediatric Convalescent Center receive the highest practicable quality of care that meets or exceeds federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements, and creates an environment in which children, families, and team members thrive.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists in planning and facilitating:
    • KCPCC New Employee Orientation
    • CNA Inservice Trainings
    • Skills Validation
    • CPR training
    • Just in Time training
  • Manages and maintains the KCPCC Training / Patient Care Simulation Lab.
  • Maintains team member competency program and records.
  • Develops trainings to meet team member needs.
  • Assists with program(s) of nursing student clinicals.
  • Assists with administrative training tasks including calendar management, maintain employee training database, scheduling, etc.
  • Model and exemplify Core Values of Compassion, Wellness, Excellence, and Empowerment, in every interaction, circumstance, and encounter.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of teaching strategies for adult learners.
  • Strong interpersonal and motivational skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Thorough understanding of long-term skilled nursing care federal, state, and local regulations, guidelines, and requirements.
  • Proficient with current Microsoft Office Suite and related software.

Education and Experience:

  • Unencumbered and current Commonwealth of Kentucky Registered Nurse License is required.
  • Current CPR/Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification is required.
  • Knowledge of long-term care regulatory requirements that govern skilled nursing facilities and the ability to impart that knowledge to others is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • May be physically and emotionally demanding
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and computer workstation
  • Must be able to flex working schedule to evenings and weekends to accommodate training needs of team members
  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 35 lbs up to 65 lbs unassisted, from the floor using proper body mechanics
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions and frequent movement throughout the day, including responding to emergency situations
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language
