Laboratory:
The Laboratory at Baptist Health Louisville provides both clinical and pathology services with a staff of 121 employees who perform approximately 3.5 million tests a year.
The staff is comprised of a group of registered medical technologists and medical laboratory technicians, laboratory aides, phlebotomists, histo-technologists, and transcriptionists. There are 4 pathologists who oversee the technical departments and provide surgical pathology services to the hospital. The Laboratory consisting of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Pathology and Histology is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Laboratory had automated the processing and testing of majority of the specimens with the use of robotics thus providing accurate results and quick turn-around-times to meet the needs of the patients and physicians. Job Summary:
Performs, validates and interprets established tests and examinations in at least one of the following fields within the clinical laboratory: Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Blood Bank and Microbiology. Comprehends the theories and concepts for each procedure and utilizes independent thinking and communication skills to confer these concepts to physicians and other members of the hospital staff. Assists with quality control, quality improvement initiatives as well as the oversight of Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Aides. Duties may also include clerical tasks, phlebotomy and related laboratory services.
Qualifications:
o Degree, with ASCP certification or eligible to take certification required.
o Applicants must obtain MLT/MT certification within 6 months of hire.
o Previous Experience in high complexity testing preferred.
o Previous experience in Microbiology preferred.
o Every Third Weekend Required.
