Parent Education Facilitator, Home of the Innocents, Louisville, KY

Job Summary:

The Parent Education Facilitator administers evidence-based parent education curriculums through implementation of lesson planning, class instruction, and record keeping. Responsibilities include building rapport with parents and children, implementing evidence-based curriculum including but not limited to Positive Parenting Program (Triple P), classroom management through group facilitation, record keeping, and collaboration with stakeholders and the Manager of the program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Complete all necessary trainings to implement evidence-based parent education curriculum. For Triple P, this includes 4.5 full days for 0-12 Group and 1.5 full days for Teen Group.
  • Prepare lesson plans including lecture, activities, PowerPoint, audio/video presentations, and homework.
  • Conduct at least two hybrid (in-person and online) evening classes in their entirety per cycle. Triple P is an 8-week course that meets weekly for 90 minutes.
  • Create a learning environment and facilitate instruction.
  • Prepare for and bring necessary supplies to each class (i.e., markers, pens, handouts, etc.).
  • Model the values of the program and curriculum in each encounter with the parents.
  • Complete all pre- and post-family assessments.
  • Enter data for participant records and reports for funding sources.
  • Meet with clients before or after class, as needed, to assist in organizing required correspondence.
  • Correspond on behalf of the client or program to involved third parties (i.e., social workers, family, court, etc.) regarding attendance, participation, or concerns in conjunction with the manager.
  • Assist in organizing of mealtimes and cleanup of meals, supplies and general area before and after class.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good spelling, grammar, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with current Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Conscientious adherence to confidentiality issues and ability to act in compliance with local, state, federal law, and appropriate industry guidelines.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent, ethical, and well-informed decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, clients, family members, and visitors.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and have flexibility to work with clients, personnel, and support agencies.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, education, childcare or human services field required.
  • Experience may be considered in lieu of education.
  • A minimum of one year of direct service experience with children, adolescents, and/or families is required.
  • Experience working with the Department of Community Based Services/Child Protective Services preferred.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Works in office area(s).
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset clients, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • Works beyond normal working hours.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
