CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Lorie Short, an award-winning professional artist from Glasgow, Ky, is known for her art which is strongly influence by her devotion to nature, especially Kentucky wildflowers.
She has an exhibit at Campbellsville University’s Pence-Chowning Art Gallery, 205 University Drive, Campbellsville, through Nov. 15.
Besides working with acrylic, mixed media, pastel and watercolors, Short manufactures recyclable items in her art to raise awareness of how thoughtlessly and wasteful we throw away daily used items.
“It is a good day to stand in front of the easel with all the paints laid out on the palette, the canvas before me, inspiration humming in my brain and soul. It is here in this moment I will release what comes forth. I smack paint! It is after all just paint and canvas, hopes, dreams and inspiration,” Short said.
Short has not only won numerous awards in Kentucky and Tennessee, she also was the feature artist in “Who’s Who in Kentucky Arts & Crafts” by Arlene Wright- Correll, which got published in The Hart County News-Herald.
In April 2013, Short’s art works made it on the cover of the SOKY Magazine and was able to exhibit her work at The Backdoor Gallery in Cookeville, Tenn. in September 2010 as well as at The Glasgow Chamber of Commerce 2008, Allen County Library, the Scottsville YMCA, Dumplins of Scottsville and The Narrow Way Bed & Breakfast.
After graduating from Western Kentucky University with an art degree she studied painting through the Barren county Community Education Program under the direction of John Wing.
As a member of The Arts Guilt of Barrens, Inc., the Board of Directors and The Scottsville Art Guilt she has served as Vice- President for 2010, President for 2011, and Chair- Person in 2011 and 2013 for the Summers End Art Show and instructed the Artist Enrichment Work Shops in 2012.
She works as an acrylic painting instructor for the Barren County Community Education program and as a curator of The Stonehaven Gallery at Barren River Lake State Resort Park Lodge.
The times when Short is not painting she enjoys spending time with her husband, her three children, two grandchildren and pets in her hometown Glasgow, Ky.
