CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – High school students can get a jump start on their college career by signing up for Dual Credit at Campbellsville University for the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
Dual Credit is a college level course taken by a high school student that counts toward high school and college credit. Qualified instructors teach the Dual Credit courses at the student’s high school during the normal school day.
Scott Necessary, director of dual credit and assistant to the vice president for admissions at CU, said CU also offers high school honors where students can come to CU’s main campus to take courses at the same discounted tuition rate.
Qualifying Dual Credit students pay $65 per credit hour, or $195 for a three-hour credit course. “This is tremendous savings over the regular cost of college courses and allows for a gradual transition to college,” according to Necessary.
The Dual Credit program is offered at the following high schools: Taylor County, Campbellsville, Green County, LaRue County, Central Hardin, Meade County, Breckinridge County, Allen County-Scottsville, Hart County, Metcalfe County, Monroe County, Russell County, Boyle County, Casey County, Spencer County, Whitefield Academy in Louisville and Frankfort Christian Academy.
General education classes include: English, algebra, biology, chemistry, history, political science, speech and communications, Spanish, psychology and sociology.
Necessary said there are several advantages to enrolling in Dual Credit classes in addition to the financial savings. He said students enrolled have the potential to graduate early, as well as participate in activities on campus with their CU ID card, including athletic events, plays and musicals, and other events and discounts.
Night classes start at Campbellsville University Monday, Aug. 26 with day classes starting Tuesday, Aug. 27.
