CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Dr. Jason Garrett, associate professor of communication at Campbellsville University, has been selected to present his film “Girl(s)” at the Black Hollywood Education Resource Center in Hollywood, Calif., Saturday, March 31.
Garrett produced, directed and edited the film during the fall 2011 semester with the students in his narrative video production class as his crew.
He will be attending the festival on Saturday and discussing the film with the audience immediately following the screening.
“‘Girl(s)’ is about a 14-year old pregnant African-American girland the Caucasian women she encounters along the way,” Garrett said.
“For me ‘Girl(s)’ is a study of subtle racism,” Garrett said.
Garrett has taught at CU since 2003. He received his master’s degree in communication from Regent University in 2001 and his bachelor of arts in theater arts from Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, N.C. in 1998.
He received his Ph.D. in communications from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. in May 2008.
He is married to Starr Garrett, director of the theater at CU and assistant professor of theater. They have two children: August and Everest.
