CAMPBELLSILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University will showcase artwork by Jazz Murphree Page of Hardinsburg, Ky., and Lindey Nelson of Jacksonville, Ala., in a senior art exhibit March 31 through April 12 at the new Art Gallery across from Gosser Fine Arts Center.
A reception in their honor will be held Saturday, March 31 at 4 p.m. in the Art Gallery from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The public is invited to the free exhibit. Refreshments will be served.
Page, a 2003 graduate of Breckinridge County High School in Harned, Ky., was included in the student art exhibit at Campbellsville University in 2004 and in 2005. She also exhibited work in the 2003 Breckinridge County Fair.
Page says she “enjoys using a great deal of color…for expressing the personal joy” of working on a piece of art.
Page believes her personal joy comes from viewing her artistic ability as a spiritual gift, and her time at Campbellsville University has helped to encourage the use of this spiritual gift for the glory of God.
Page will graduate from Campbellsville University in May 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in art with minors in psychology and aquatics management.
“My focus is not on a particular subject matter, but on the colors involved,” Page said. Her inspiration comes from her interests, loved ones and places that she has traveled.
Page’s exhibit will display ceramics, paintings, graphite, charcoal and dry pastel drawings.
Nelson, a 2003 graduate of Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Ala., said her works of art are inspired by the Bible, God’s word, and her relationship with Jesus.
Nelson said she realized how much she liked working with her hands after taking a couple of summer classes at Jacksonville State University in ceramics and printmaking.
“It was a release to work long hours, to be quiet, and to share the process with others,” Nelson said. “I then melded into the art department and since have continued to learn, to hone skills and to let the Spirit of God move.”
One of her pieces, “Make my chest a place…” is a naturalistic ceramic heart that “expresses my longing to become more like Jesus and to be so intimate with him that his very heart beats within my chest,” Nelson said.
Nelson will graduate from Campbellsville University in May 2007 with a bachelor of science degree in art with minors in Biblical studies and secondary education.
Nelson’s exhibit will feature 2-D and 3-D works of art.
