CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky- Campbellsville University’s Noon Organ Recital will present Jan-Piet Knijff, an active musician who is a graduate student at the University of Kentucky, on Tuesday, March 11, at 12:20 p.m. The recital will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 429 N Central Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.
Knijff is a fellow of the American Guild of Organists and has served as a professional church musician for over 30 years. He will entertain with compositions by Mozart, Jongen, Samuel Wesley, Best, Elgar, Liszt and Buxtehude.
The university community and the public are all invited to attend the free program that will end at 12:50 p.m.
Born in Haarlem, The Netherlands, Knijff studied organ, harpsichord, piano, sacred music and musicology in Amsterdam and Utrecht. He moved to New York after he won the International Bach Organ Competition in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1997.
While in New York, he earned a doctorate degree from The City University of New York in 2005. He also taught music at the undergraduate as well as graduate level in a number of universities in the New York metropolitan area, including Fairfield University and Queens College/CUNY.
In 2011, Knijff moved to Australia to take up a position at the University of New England, where he taught Latin and ancient Greek in addition to music. He established a community music festival in the university town as well as a unique weekly music event, “Jan-Piet’s Choice,” which ran for some 89 installments.
Knijff has scholarly articles that have been published in journals on three continents in three languages.
A graduate student in classics at the University of Kentucky, Knijff teaches Latin there while continuing to be active in music.
