Campbellsville University to host Brian Hunt, organist/assistant director of music at the Cathedral of Christ the King

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville University will host Brian Hunt, organist/assistant director of music at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington, Ky., in concert at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, for the university’s Noon Organ Recital Series.

The concert is free and open to the public and will end at 12:50 p.m. in time for those attending to return to work.

The series provides organ music from the 1894 Farrand and Votey Organ in Ransdell Chapel which is enlarged to 51 ranks by Moeller, Pilcher and Milnar Organ Companies.

Hunt will perform “Prelude & Fugue in F Minor” by J.S. Bach, “Prelude, Fugue, & Variation” by Cesar Franck, “Sortie in Eb” by Louis J.A. Lefebure-Wely, “Adagio” by Frank Bridge and “Toccata in b minor” by Eugene Gigout.

Hunt has been the organist/assistant director of music at the Cathedral of Christ the King since September 2004. He assists Robert Whitaker, director of music in an active and comprehensive music program at the cathedral, including an Adult Choir, Boys Choir, Girls Choir and a Cathedral Concert Series.

Prior to his appointment at Christ the King, he was the director of music for Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish in Lexington.

Hunt is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, having completed a Bachelor’s of Music Education in 1979 and the Master of Sacred Music degree in 2004. His teachers include Arnold Blackburn and Dr. Schuyler Robinson.

Hunt has been active in the Lexington Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He completed additional study with the Royal School of Church Music in Croydon, England in July 1990.  He was included in the 60th Edition of “Who’s Who in America” in 2005. He received the GIA Pastoral Musician of the Year award in 2005.
