CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – “This is a special time in your life and in your career that is a whole new chapter in your life,” said Dr. Donna Hedgepath, dean of Campbellsville University’s School of Education, at the pinning and hooding ceremony Dec. 12 in The Gheens Recital Hall in the Gosser Fine Arts Center on campus.
Gayla Tungate, a graduate of Lebanon, Ky. said a quote from Thomas Edison summed up many things, “Vision without execution is hallucination.”
“My vision is now reality,” she said. “Like many of those sitting before me, it has been a long road and has seemed like the end was just a hallucination. My vision began a long time ago in a county not so far away.”
She said she had a dream of becoming a teacher while in the first grade and wanted to grow up to help people. Because she knew that she was meant to teach at such a young age, it has given her a love and passion for teaching.
“I am sure this is true for so many who love to see the smile on a child’s face when they achieve something they never thought they could,” she said. “Those smiles are why we are here and why so many of us are called to this profession.”

“One day, I hope to have impacted a student’s life, and I can feel that my new vision isn’t a hallucination.”
Hedgepath said to stay tough and always stay focused on contributing to the life of a child.
“My prayer for you is that you find purpose as you help children develop – academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually. Every child is special and unique, but keep in mind that a child may not always remember your curriculum, but they’ll always remember how you made them feel and how you did minister to them,” she said.
Quoting J.P. Morgan, Tungate wanted to encourage the graduates to continue changing their future. “Go as far as you can see,” she said, “when you get there, you can see further.”

Dr. Frank Cheatham, senior vice president for academic affairs, said the invocation, with Samantha Coomer of Campbellsville, Ky., delivering the benediction.
