CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University, in conjunction with the Prichard Committee on Excellence and local sponsors, will host a meeting about ReadyKentucky, a new initiative to help prepare for new academic standards, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 in the Banquet Hall of the Badgett Academic Support Center, 110 University Drive, Campbellsville.
The ReadyKentucky initiative is designed to help local communities, school systems, teachers and parents to be prepared for the ongoing implementation of enhanced curriculum standards that will help the Commonwealth’s students succeed in college and the workplace.
In addition to Campbellsville University and the Prichard Committee on Excellence, Campbellsville Independent and Taylor County Schools, the Campbellsville/Taylor County Chamber of Commerce, Greater Campbellsville United and the Campbellsville-Taylor County Economic Development Authority are serving as co-sponsors of the meeting.
“Campbellsville University is pleased to be hosting this important meeting along with the Campbellsville Independent Schools, Taylor County Schools, Chamber of Commerce, Campbellsville-Taylor County Economic Development Authority, and Greater Campbellsville United,” John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president at CU, said.
“Each of the community sponsors recognize the importance of Kentucky’s move to new national educational core standards, and we are committed to supporting our local schools in this effort,” he said.
Chowning said, “The ReadyKentucky initiative is designed to help inform local communities on the new curriculum standards and why these enhanced educational standards are so vital to our students and the future of this part of Kentucky and the entire state.
“We encourage people to attend – not only those involved in education such as parents and teachers – but the public in general will benefit.”
ReadyKentucky is being organized by the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence with initial financial support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The tentative agenda of the meeting will include the background of the Pritchard Committee on Excellence, partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Gates Foundation and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.
There will be discussion of how higher standards are affecting schools, parents and businesses and background of the Common Core Standards adopted by 46 states.
Discussion will also take place concerning the new assessment and scores to be released in October and new accountability and how that will measure schools and district.
There will also be a question and answer time.
