CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. –Artist and Campbellsville University alumna Renee Renfro of Adair County, Ky. will have her work on display in the Pence-Chowing Art Gallery on Campbellsville University’s campus through Dec. 12 at 503 N. Columbia, Campbellsville. The reception will be Dec. 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and everyone is invited.
The exhibit features a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works by Renfro, including paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures and functional ceramics.
Renfro will graduate Dec. 13 with a major in art from Campbellsville University.
She is a graduate of East Jessamine High School. She lives in Adair County with her husband. She was born in Longmont, Colo. but grew up in Nicholasville, Ky.
Some of her landscape paints are of her hometown in Colorado. Renfro is one of the many alumni who say that Campbellsville University is a place where she “found her calling.”
Renfro entered CU as a nursing student, but fell in love with art and changed her major after taking a hand-building ceramics class as an elective.
“I fell in love with the freedom to create beautiful pieces of art that can actually be used,” she said. Most of her ceramic pieces she’s made have resulted from the assignments she was given in her ceramics classes.
She said some of her favorite subjects to draw and paint are places I have been with her family and loved ones.
“There is something special to me about making a work of art that not only sits on a shelf or hangs on a wall, but can be used in everyday life,” she said of her love of ceramics.
Her work has been featured in several CU student juried art shows. In 2010, she received third place in ceramics. In 2011, she received second place in sculpting. In 2012, she received third place in sculpture and first and third place for her ceramics. In 2013, she received first place in sculpting.
She also exhibited at the U.S. Bank “Celebration of the Arts” Exhibition at Western Kentucky University. Renfro’s work is also available for sale in the Chowning Art Shop as well as various arts and crafts fairs around Kentucky.
