CU students win in Annual Spring Juried Student Art Competition

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—The Campbellsville University Juried Student Art Show will be on display through May 20.

Three winners were picked from each of the eight categories. The eight categories include: Painting, Drawing, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Graphic Design, Printmaking and Animation.

Best in Show was awarded to Dalton Bennett of Campbellsville, Ky., for his piece “Cookies.” Best in Nature Category was awarded to Shelby White of Willisburg, Ky., for her piece “Nature’s Beauty.”

Painting was the first category to be judged with Ben Gaona of Campbellsville, Ky., as the winner for his piece “Self Portrait.” Second place was Yukiko Takashima of Japan, for “Spring Stream.” Third place was Ben Gaona of Campbellsville, Ky., for his piece “Gettysburg.”

Drawing was the second category to be judged with Dalton Bennett of Campbellsville, Ky., as the winner with his piece “Skull #3.” Emily Swafford of Campbellsville, Ky., placed second with her piece “Cookies” and Ben Gaona of Campbellsville, Ky., took third place with “Let it Sink In.”

In the photography category, Kasey Kruczek of Easton, Pa., placed first with her piece “Abandonment.” Second place was awarded to Sarah Smith of Los Fresnos, Texas, for her piece “Candyland” while Austin Merritt of Campbellsville, Ky., took third place with his piece “Cognition.”

Keysha Martin of Le Vergne, Tenn., took first place in ceramics for her piece “Butterflies,”; Emily Swafford of Campbellsville, Ky., was awarded second place for her piece “Geometric Vase” and Johnnie Walkup of Campbellsville, Ky., placed third with his piece “Seashell Bowl.”

In the sculpture category, Eurico Nunes of Portugal, placed first with his piece “CATBoot” with Ben Gaona of Campbellsville, Ky., taking second place with his piece “Man with Weapon” and Kasey Kruczek of Easton, Pa., placing third with her piece “Stone Ear.”

The winner for the Graphic Design Category was Brittany Downy of Campbellsville, Ky., with her piece “Rcraic Pzls.” Bailey James of Bartlett, Tenn., came in second place with “Cloud9” while Brittany Downey of Campbellsville, Ky., also came in third for her piece “Fox in a Box.”

In the Printmaking portion, the winners include: “Help” by Kasey Kruczek of Easton, Pa., finishing first, “Spring” by Sarah Fanning of Versailles, Ky., placing second and “Orb of Vitality” by Sarah Smith of Los Fresnos, Texas, placing third.

The final category to be judged was the Animation category. Coming in first place with her piece “Splash!” was Sarah Smith of Los Fresnos, Texas, and coming in second place was “Bite and Chew Test” by Collin Pendelton of Campbellsville Ky.

There were also many honorable mentions throughout each category.

Honorable mentions include- Drawing category: Sarah Fanning of Versailles, Ky., with her piece “Oksana” and Devon Cross of Lewisburg, Ky., with his piece “Studies of a Notebook”; Sculpture category: Ben Gaona of Campbellsville, Ky., with his piece “Head.”
