CU to host KBC president Dr. Dan Summerlin

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Dr. Dan Summerlin, president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention and pastor of Lone Oak First Baptist Church in Paducah, Ky., will speak at Campbellsville University during chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m.

Chapel takes place in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., on the main campus of Campbellsville University. Everyone is invited to attend free of charge.

Summerlin has served as president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention (KBC) since 2012. He is a member of the executive committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, a position he’d held since 2010.

He served as vice president of the KBC from 2010 and 2011. He has served as chairman of the cooperative program development committee of the executive committee of the Southern Baptist convention since 2012.

Summerlin has served as a trustee at the Western Recorder since 2010, and he is a member of the Evangelical Philosophical Society, having served since 2007.

He has been the pastor at Lone Oak First Baptist Church since 2002. He has served as pastor at three other churches including: University Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala., Big Sandy Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Elmo Baptist Church in Roxie, Miss.

Summerlin graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1977. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1981 where he earned his bachelor of science degree in psychology. He did postgraduate study at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and earned his master of divinity in 1985 and doctor of theology in 1991.

Summerlin has sermons published in both “William Carey Magazine” and “Union Pulpit.”

He was the R.G. Lee Society of Fellows at Union University, speaker for Shepherd the Shepherd Conference in Kentucky in 2004 and 2009, delivered the convention sermon for the 2011 Kentucky Baptist Convention and was the 2012 KBC Pastor’s Conference preacher.

Summerlin has led international mission trips to Honduras, Ecuador, Zambia, Malawi and Thailand.
He is the son of Pauline Summerlin of Alabama and the late C.D. Summerlin. He is married to Eileen Elmore Summerlin; they have two children, James and Jenna.
