CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—Campbellsville University will be hosting Dr. Neda Bezerra as the speaker for CU’s chapel Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. in Ransdell Chapel.
The public is invited to attend.
Bezerra is the director of international education at the University of Fortaleza in Fortaleza, Brazil. According to Bill Holmes, director of international education at CU, the program will include a presentation on the new spiritualist movement in Brazil and music and singing from Brazilian students in the department.
“It will be a convocation devoted to Brazilian music and culture since they are such a large part of the campus community here,” Holmes said.
Bezerra received her Ph.D. in anthropology in May 2002 from the University of Florida. She received her master of arts in English in 1992 from Millersville University of Pennsylvania, and her bachelor of science in accounting in 1988 from Universidade Federal do Ceará in Brazil.
She has served in her current position since 2004. She has served as professor of anthropology and professor of English as a foreign language at the University of Fortaleza since 2003.
She was research coordinator from 2001 to 2002 at the University of Florida Department of Religion.
She served as Scholar-in-Residence at the Millersville University of Pennsylvania for January and February 2008 where she taught Perspectives on Brazil.
She has also served as a teaching assistant of anthropology, instructor of Portuguese and instructor of history of Brazilian popular music at several institutions.
She did field research for her dissertation – The Appeal of Spiritism to its Followers in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil in February to August of 1998.
She has been published several times presented at several conferences. She belongs to the American Anthropological Association and the Brazilian Studies Association.
Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through of a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
All chapel events are open to the public free of charge.
