CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University School of Music will present “Die Fledermaus, Revenge of the Bat” Nov. 22-24 at The Gheens Recital Hall in the Gosser Fine Arts Center.
The productions, directed by Dr. Mark Bradley, professor of music, are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
Full productions will be at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, and Monday, Nov. 24. A concert version will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23.
‘“Die Fledermaus”’ is a comic opera performed in English with the delightful music of Johann Strauss including many of his famous waltzes,” Bradley said.
The opera is in three acts and has about a two-hour performance time.
“The cast is extremely diverse in that several have never sung opera before and others have performed dozens of operas,” he said. Bradley said there are several undergraduate voice majors and graduate students performing.
Performers in various roles include: Rosalinda by Carmen Drake, a junior music education major from Hodgenville, Ky.; Adele by Aubrey Skutt, a freshman music education major from Columbia, Ky.;
Eisenstein by E.J. Pavy, a senior music education major from Campbellsville, Ky.; Alfred by Scott Burress, a CU alumnus from Elizabethtown, Ky.; Dr. Blind by Phillip Brann, a senior music education major from Robards, Ky.; Dr. Falke by Bradley; Frank by Clint Warf, a senior music major from Greensburg, Ky.;
Sally by Brittany Hall, a senior worship arts major from Lawrenceburg, Ky.; Frosch by Jamaal Stiles, a senior biology/chemistry major from Campbellsville; Prince Orlofsky by Cristiana Caldas, a graduate music student from Barbacena, Brazil; and Ivan by Taeeun Moon, an English as a Second Language music student from Busan, South Korea.
Bradley said three soon-to-be graduate students will be performing the concert version. Two South Korean students, Taeeun Moon and Ahhyun Im, and one Brazilian, Margareth Miguel, will be filling roles in the concert version.
The story revolves around Gabriel von Eisenstein who has been sentenced to eight days in prison for a minor offense. He is about to leave for jail when his friend Falke persuades him to postpone surrendering and go to a ball that Prince Orlofsky is giving.
Events happen at the party, during which identities are confused, and Eisenstein finally reports for jail.
