The Campbellsville University cosmetology program at The Brockman Center in Hodgenville had their first graduate recently.
Aeryl Cobb of Hodgenville was one of the first students to sign up for the cosmetology program at The Brockman Center when it was opened in March 2016.
“It’s bittersweet to graduate, but I am excited at the same time. It’s even more of an accomplishment being the first graduate from here,” Cobb said. “I am from Hodgenville, so I am hoping
to be able to stay here and work in LaRue County.”
Suzanne Zahrndt, Instructor of Cosmetology at The Brockman Center, said she is proud of Cobb and also proud of their cosmetology program.
“I am super proud of her and she will be an asset to LaRue County,” Zahrndt said. “Having our first graduate is a huge milestone for us. We currently have seven students and we will have 20 students by the time classes start in August. We have room for 37 students and the increase in students is a sign that we are moving in the right direction.”
A reception was held for Cobb and a large crowd of her parents and friends attended. Educators and staff from Campbellsville University were also in attendance, including Dr. G. Ted Taylor, vice president for university outreach.
“I believe this is only the first of many graduates and we see enrollment increasing. This is a positive step in the right direction,” Taylor said. “We are excited to be here and excited to be a part of this community.”
The cosmetology program at The Brockman Center is one of three cosmetology locations at Campbellsville University. Amanda Roop, Director of the School of Cosmetology at Campbellsville University, said cosmetology students are trained in hair, skin and nails. After students earn their cosmetology license, they have several job opportunities such as a salon stylist, salon owner, instructor, makeup artist; work in film and theater, fashion shows, weddings and other special occasions.
“Our Hodgenville location is equipped with state of the art equipment and class sizes that accommodate ‘hands-on’ learning,” Ropp said. “We are dedicated to ensuring the success of each student.”

The cosmetology program at The Brockman Center is a 1,500-clock hour program with classes meeting Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students spend the first 250 hours in the classroom and then they move to the salon floor.
The program takes applicants throughout the year and enrolls bi-monthly during the months of February, April, June, August, October and December. The requirements for enrollment are an official high school transcript or GED. Tuition for the program is $13,500, while the kit fee is $1,700 totaling to $15,200. Financial aid is available for the cosmetology program.
