Job Summary

· In the role of EHSS Manager, the successful candidate develops, implements and administers programs, plans and policies for a combination of the following functions: hazard management, safety, loss prevention, security, emergency response, environmental health, and regulatory compliance. The EHSS Manager will promote an active and constantly improving culture of EHSS of awareness, employee involvement, leadership, and accountability while ensuring regulatory compliance.

 

Job Description/Responsibilities

  • Administers policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards governing areas pertaining to functional areas of responsibility and provides guidance and direction to correct deficiencies.
  • Monitors regulatory environment and maintains relationships with governmental entities and others in the field to proactively respond to new or amended rules and regulations. Ensures required data collection, permits, and filings are maintained current.
  • Collaborates with and advises other functions and business leadership teams to prevent or mitigate risks and ensure EHSS programs and policies support objectives.
  • Coordinates field inspections, tests, audits, investigations, and/or collection/analysis of environmental samples to assess processes and/or facilities and documents, reports and interprets findings to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Develops and implements effective training and education programs related to functional areas of responsibility and tracks participation. Depending on the assignment, may include managing all aspects of the behavior-based safety/ coaching observation program.
  • Oversee emergency response / management programs to ensure all facilities have a structure and resources to respond to emergency situations.
  • Develop and improve plant-specific work practices, PPE selection, and procedures.
  • Ensure employee participation and engagement.
  • Emergency planning.
  • Maintain effective emergency action plans
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local ERS and outside services to assure effective emergency planning and responses (coordinated with internal responders).
  • Provide training and routine meetings for internal responders to ensure effective responses.
  • Prepare, schedule, and conduct emergency drills and exercises.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Analyze, summarize, and report relevant EHSS data to all organizational levels (to include leading indicators)
  • Manage the contractor safety program.
  • Provide routine daily field presence and interaction with floor level employees.
  • Support planning of critical activities (and monitoring execution of critical activities).
  • Ensure that employee safety concerns are captured and that response to concerns is timely and adequate.
  • Record, assign, and follow-to-resolution, all safety actions from employee concerns and suggestions, and actions that are identified by incident investigations.
  • Set expectations for, enforce, and facilitate incident and near-miss incident reporting.
  • Lead or coordinate audits, inspections, training, and verification of compliance to company and regulatory standards. Develop and improve of EHSS auditing programs.
  • Lead or support new project safety reviews or reviews of equipment changes/alterations.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on workplace injuries and modified duty/safe employee return-to-work.
  • Ensure plant security. Lead or conduct security investigations. Ownership of plant security systems (including surveillance systems).

· Create, implement and manage BBC security standards, policies, and procedures.

· Plan security for special and high-risk events.

· Develop and implement budgetary requirements for security, safety, and environmental operations.

· Procure and maintain security-related supplies and equipment as needed.

· Conduct physical examinations of property to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.

  • Serve and assist as company representative for outside agency inspections or audits (government, insurance, etc.) and for internal legal counsel.
  • Organize and lead plant-wide safety and communications meetings.
  • Develop plant and assist with development of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develop and mentor plant leaders (particularly regarding EHSS responsibilities).
  • Lead investigation teams for significant incidents. Determine root cause and corrective actions. Manage the roll out of corrective actions. Develop and maintain investigative skills of others on the plant management team.
  • Commitment for the Company’s ISO program including the quality and food safety of our products.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, safety, or related discipline, from an accredited academic institution is preferred.

  • 5 years or more of demonstrated work experience in an EHS management position (with emergency response and planning responsibilities) is required. Security experience is preferred.
  • Must demonstrate an advanced working knowledge of OSHA regulations. DOT and environmental regulatory knowledge/experience is preferred.
  • Must have experience and competence with incident investigation and process/job safety review methodologies.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office – Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to lift as much as 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods; walk long distances, ascend/descend stairs, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color perception and the ability to adjust focus is required to effectively perform the responsibilities of this job.
  • Must be willing and able to work outdoors and in the plant environment for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to respond with urgency to workplace issues outside of normal work hours to include weekends, holidays and anytime of the day or night.
