CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University School of Theology will present a lecture on the New Testament authors’ use of Isaiah 53 on Monday, April 18, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Banquet Hall of the Badgett Academic Support Center, located at 110 University Drive, Campbellsville.
The event is free and open to the public.
The lecture is part of the Theology department’s weeklong event called the Holy Week Lectures.
The featured speaker for Monday night is Dr. Peter J. Gentry. Gentry will specifically focus on the New Testament authors’ exegetical method of the very important Old Testament test, Isaiah 53.
Gentry earned a bachelor’s, master’s and a doctorate degree from the University of Toronto. He did additional graduate studies at Dallas Theological Seminary and at the Jerusalem Theological College. Gentry has served as professor of Old Testament Interpretation at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary since 1999.
Prior to his post at Southern Seminary, Gentry served on the bible faculty at Toronto Baptist Seminary and Bible College for 15 years, and he taught at the University of Toronto, Heritage Theological Seminary, and Tyndale Theological Seminary.
He has published numerous scholarly articles on Isaiah and Hebrew Grammar, and he has given many important scholarly presentations, such as to the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament and the Society of Biblical Literature, both of which he is a member.
He is currently editing Ecclesiastes and Proverbs for the Gottingen Septuagint (Greek Old Testament) series. His lifelong project has been devoted to composing a new critical edition to the Septuagint. This project is currently titled the Hexapla Project.
A Holy Week chapel service will take place Wednesday, April 20 at 10 a.m. in Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.
