National Healthcare Leader Honored by CU’s Louisville Center
Louisville, Ky. – A leading healthcare administrator from Louisville was honored Memorial Day Weekend by Campbellsville University at its Louisville Center. Al Cornish, Vice President for Norton Healthcare was awarded the university’s coveted Campbellsville University Leadership Award for his national, state and local leadership in the field of healthcare. The presentation was made at the annual Louisville Campus Graduate Celebration/Convocation, held May 22, 2009. This traditional banquet features the presentation of special honors and awards, especially for students of the Louisville Campus after they receive their diplomas in the main campus commencement exercises.
“Al Cornish has demonstrated a life of helping others,” said Dr. H. Keith Spears, Vice President for Regional and Professional Education. “As indicated by the award, the universal attributes of fellowship, leadership and scholarship are those that are displayed daily by this community leader. Al Cornish goes well beyond any expectations of executive leadership.” Cornish, who has been recognized both regionally and nationally for his civic and business leadership, is a two-time honors graduate from University of Maryland and Lacrosse University.
“Al Cornish is the type of individual whom we would like for our students to emulate,” said Dr. Frank Cheatham, Vice President of Academics. “His success in business corresponds directly with his accomplishments in the many community associations in which he participates. We are pleased to welcome him into the Campbellsville University Leadership Circle.” Cheatham and Spears made the presentation on behalf of President Michael V. Carter who was in Idaho, attending the first appearance of the CU’s baseball team in the NAIA Collegiate World Series.
Additional special awards were presented to Lawrence Wigginton who received the Outstanding Organizational Management Award from Dr. Pat Cowherd, Dean of the CU School of Business and Economics; and to Stephanie Barber who received the Outstanding Pastoral Ministries Award from Dr. John Hurtgen, Dean of the CU School of Theology.
Graduates were recognized individually by Jim Woolums, Director of the Louisville Campus, and by Kelli Gwilt, Assistant Director.
“I am very proud to recognize each of our graduates at the Louisville campus.” Woolums said. “They have worked hard balancing life, job, family and school. It is also an honor to serve men and women like this because they want an education and know it can open tremendous opportunities for them.”

Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management: Sean Cook, Shane Harrod, Jessica McBride, Jane McCawley,Joshua McFarland and Lawrence Wigginton.
Associate Degree in General Studies: Devonne Johnson and Barry Wethington.
During the event Dr. Spears introduced the new dean for Campbellsville University’s School of Nursing, Bob Wade, who will begin July 1 at the main campus. He also acknowledged the staff members present: Woolums, Gwilt, James Gribbins, Coordinator of Admissions; Josh McFarland, Technology Coordinator and Katie Houck, Director of First Impressions, all decked out in their servant aprons declaring, “Campbellsville University Louisville Center, Serving…”
Attending from the main campus were Cheatham, Cowherd, Hurtgen, Emma Revis, Director of Foundation Relations; Carol Sullivan, Director of the CU Technology Training Center; Linda Waggener, Marketing and Media Relations Coordinator and Shannon Clark, Alumni Director.
Clark welcomed the new graduates into the Alumni Association and expressed the university staff’s congratulations.
