CU to Hold Piano Recital ‘Commemorating Debussy’ March 4

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University’s School of Music undergraduate and graduate piano majors and minors will present a piano recital titled “Commemorating Debussy: The Centennial of Debussy’s Preludes, Book 1” on Thursday, March 4, at 8 p.m. in The Gheens Recital Hall located at 210 University Drive, Campbellsville.

            The event is free and open to the public.

            Students of Dr. William Budai, assistant professor of piano, and Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music, will perform 12 Preludes that were completed 100 years ago in 1910. The French composer, Claude Debussy (1862-1918), is recognized for his musical contribution to Impressionism.

            Roberts said Debussy’s Preludes are descriptive pieces on a host of topics that exemplify the play of sound and musical color that was typical in Impressionistic composition.

            The following students will perform the 12 Preludes: Chase Moore of Ferguson, Ky.; Pei-Fen Lin of Taiwan; Eunhye Lee of South Korea; Hana Park of South Korea; Charity Kasey Vitkus of Aurora, Ill.; Zhui Zhang of China; Jared Clark of Versailles, Ky.; Seth Johnson of Leitchfield, Ky.; Chung-Ling Cheng of Taiwan; Zhiwei Zheng of China; and Yuri Kim of South Korea.

            Campbellsville University is a private, comprehensive institution located in South Central Kentucky.
