CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TO HOST INAUGURAL
FALL BIBLICAL AND THEOLOGICAL STUDIES LECTURES
NOV. 16 IN BANQUET HALL

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University’s School of Theology will host its inaugural fall lectures in Biblical and Theological Studies Monday, Nov. 16 in the Badgett Academic Support Center’s Banquet Hall on campus at 110 University Drive, Campbellsville.
The goal of this lecture series, according to Dr. Jarvis Williams, assistant professor of New Testament and Greek, is to expose students and faculty to world-class experts in the field of biblical and theological scholarship and to introduce students to cutting edge biblical and theological scholarship.
This year’s theme is Justification and the New Perspective on Paul. The inaugural speaker is Dr. Thomas R. Schreiner, James Buchanan Harrison Professor of New Testament Interpretation (1997), and associate dean, scripture and interpretation at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
Schreiner will offer three lectures on Justification and the New Perspective on Paul. All lectures will be in Campbellsville University’s Banquet Hall. Lecture one will be from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Lecture two will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and lecture three will be 2:10 p.m. to 3:10 p.m.
Each lecture will give the audience 15-20 minutes to interact critically with Schreiner’s lectures.
In addition to his lectures, Schreiner will participate in a 10 a.m. question and answer session (moderated by Williams) for students and School of Theology faculty in Druien Hall, a noon lunch for students and School of Theology faculty in Winters Dining Hall, and he will have a book signing in the Campbellsville University bookstore from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. where he will be signing copies of his recent Pauline Theology and New Testament Theology.
Schreiner joined the Southern Seminary faculty in 1997 after serving 11 years on the faculty at Bethel Theological Seminary. He also taught New Testament at Azusa Pacific University.
He holds a bachelor of science degree from Western Oregon University, a master of divinity, and master of theology degree from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary and a Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary.
Schreiner has published numerous significant works in New Testament Studies, especially in the area of Pauline Theology. A few of those works include a major commentary on Romans (Baker, 1998), a Pauline Theology (IVP, 2001) and most recently a New Testament Theology (Baker, 2008).
Schreiner has also published articles in respected secular and evangelical journals in the field of New Testament Studies.
“In addition to his scholarship, Dr. Schreiner is a churchman,” Williams said. “He is a great model for what it means to be a Christian New Testament scholar.”
Schreiner recently delivered a series of lectures on Romans for a collegiate ministry at Princeton University.
He serves as the preaching pastor at Clifton Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. (a church devoted to spreading the gospel throughout the nations), and he speaks regularly at conferences for pastors and laypeople. One of Schreiner’s current writing projects is a Greek text commentary on Galatians that is devoted to helping the busy pastor study the Greek text when preparing sermons.
