Campbellsville University’s Louisville Education Center celebrates Christmas and graduation

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — It was both a Christmas and a Graduate Celebration as members of Campbellsville University’s Louisville Education Center came together Dec. 17, 2010 to honor their 23 December graduates in a new building the ownership of which was about 36 hours old.
It was a “family atmosphere,” Dr. Michael V. Carter, president, said.
CU-Louisville has purchased a new building in which to expand their class offerings, and staff members got the building in shape for a potluck dinner and service during which graduates received gifts for graduating.

Dr. Tony Newberry, president and chief executive officer of Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville, delivered a keynote address in which he told the graduates the weather outside was bad but inside it was “warm with a spirit of joy in the air.”
He told the graduates, “You deserve credit for sticking with your education. It’s a challenge to pursue a degree, and each graduate has overcome difficulties.”
He cited statistics of employment and higher earning power for the graduates and told them learning is a life-long pursuit.
Newberry said, “There is no greater legacy than to instill and inspire higher education to your family and the nation.”
Newberry received the CU Leadership Award for his work with CU that has a “rich tradition of Christian education.”
“Education ignites the fire and lifts the promise for so many individuals,” he said.
The Pastoral Leadership Award was presented to Victor Vinson of Louisville who received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pastoral Ministries.
LEC graduates included 14 undergraduates and nine graduate students as follows: undergraduates – James Allen, Micah Brown, Manina Burns, Andrea Downing, Suzanne Harvey, Julia Johnson, April Miller, Doug Ray, Carolyn Ross, Denise Blair-Sanders, Gladys Tyler, Donna Vestal, Victor Vinson and Jeremy Wilder; and graduates – Samuel Bland, Charles Dixon, Kasey Durbin, Julie Etherton, Brittani Hoyer, Gerald Joiner, Joshua McFarland, Christopher Miracle and Timothy Phillips.
