Spanish Major

All Spanish Major students must take MAC 120 or MAC 140 as part of their General Education requirements.

The purpose of the Spanish Major Program is to enable students to achieve competence in all language skills: reading, speaking, writing and listening by developing an understanding of the Spanish language and culture. A major in Spanish will offer students enrichment on the diverse realm of Spain and Spanish American Literature, culture, and linguistics.

The Spanish Major is an appropriate choice for students who intend to enter graduate studies in Spanish or related fields (higher education, administration, institutional research and development, law, philosophy, theology, etc). The major is also appropriate for students who intend to pursue non-teaching careers requiring highly develop Spanish skills in interpretation, translation, and communication (health positions, editing, management, sales, etc…). Study abroad programs are also available to provide students valuable hands-on Spanish speaking and culture experience that will make them competitive in the job market.

“The Spanish program here at Campbellsville University has opened many doors for me since graduating from CU. It has opened doors which have given me amazing adventures in South America, opportunities to speak in Hispanic churches, as well as erased communication barriers in restaurants and department stores for Spanish speakers that are unable to effectively communicate in the English language.I am currently an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher.Through studying Spanish, I have been given a perspective of common difficulties in language learning that international students could possibly face. It has aided my understanding of how to more effectively teach English to nonnative speakers. I highly recommend studying the Spanish major here at Campbellsville University because it will broaden your horizons beyond anything that you could ever imagine.”
