CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— “This place is full of opportunity,” said Kevin Fields, senior director of the Louisville Urban League, when the league toured Campbellsville University July 13.
Louisville Urban League is an after-school program whose signature is the “college readiness program,” Fields said. The league works with students throughout the year and through their summer reach program.
The league, which brought 30 of their students to Project Ready at Campbellsville University, visits colleges and explores different career options for students, and Project Ready serves as a transition from high school to college.
The Louisville Urban League also gives students more options and experience in academics, social life, global and cultural awareness.
John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president, made the connection with the Louisville Urban League.
“We are very pleased that the Louisville Urban League chose to bring 30 of their Project Ready students to the main campus of Campbellsville University,” he said.
“We appreciate the partnership that we have with the Urban League and support the great work they are doing. Thanks to Kevin Fields and other members of the LUL staff for bringing the group to CU. We are hopeful that these young people in Project Ready will seriously consider Campbellsville University as their university of choice.”
Viola Griffin, educational instructor with the Louisville Urban League, said, “Campbellsville University really is a beautiful school. It’s a place where students immediately feel connected.”
Fields encouraged the students to think about Campbellsville University when considering where they will attend college. He said, “I sense a great community here.”
